Yes! I remember the title of this chapter taught in my high school English class. It sounded strange then and though it’s not quite music to the ears even now, but the message does resonate!
Over the years, one experienced a myriad of activities, particularly nature’s circle of life and death. I saw my parents fading away and other’s parents fading away too! I had been seeing and hearing from people about the tremendous love they had for their grandchildren. There should be grandchildren right away, no rearing of your children first, seeing them getting married and then. It is fun to cuddle and spoil one’s grandchild, but what about the serious business of keeping them disciplined and on the right path? Well, that is the parent’s job isn’t it? After all, didn’t we do it too?
Well, coming to one’s own life seeing through the rear view mirror, in my college hostel days, remember boasting to an older relative cum friend, “I can brush my teeth, shave and shower all in five minutes flat!“ Remember there were no luxuries and all of us shared a single bathroom. Now in 5 minutes…..well, that was the time, when got up at 7 30 am, for the first lecture beginning at 7 50 am….true the lecture theatre was a 4 minute run….what about the breakfast ….??
Our daughter’s little boy ( Mi ) is teaching me quite a lot, inadvertently of course, never the less, it is fun seeing him do his morning exercise, just after getting up, very much like an Indian yogi. You can call it ‘Yoga’ for better effect! For some of his faculties, I am told they are developing…for example the perfect hand-eye co-ordination…as we see it . Parents, P the daughter is quite busy finding facts on the ‘Google’, thus M our son in law keeps us entertained by his witty comments; on a serious note he says “All the hard wiring of a child is completed in say his first 24 months´!
What about my serious notes….or quotes, only last night I read, “The proper time to influence the character of a child is about 100 years before he is born.” Well, taking cue on my description of my best project to date. The boy is fading in physically, as I seem to be fading out, but it can be taken as “He is slowly developing, also helping me rejuvenate myself bit by bit, as certainly I may be fading out. So it is a great ‘Balancing Act.’ You keep watching, as I am not “All Done” as yet !!
(PS the last words are borrowed from Mi ‘s small glossary of words…sentences in the making !)
